Worldwide, the incidence of depression is growing. Effective management of depression requires a collaborative effort between those affected and providers of mental health care. This course is designed to increase the reader’s understanding of the newer generation of antidepressants popularly employed today. Readers will review the demographics and diagnosis of depression, explore fact and fiction in regards to reports in the press, evaluate the value of medication-induced remission, and look at how to recognize whether problems voiced by the patient may be related to the disorder or use of medications. The ultimate goal is to improve patient care by increasing understanding of contemporary medications used in the treatment of depression.
