Course Description:

There was a time when clinicians could simply "hang a shingle" and their practice would be up and running with clients. That is no longer true. Today, to increase the possibility of creating a successful practice, clinicians must become aware of the many different business practices, create a viable business plan, and consistently and effectively implement and re-evaluate the business plan. This course helps the reader to create such a plan for starting a new private practice. In creating this course, the author consulted with experts in the fields of marketing, accounting, business promotion, and organizational management. In addition, the author has added his unique perspective as a Diplomate of the Board Certified Forensic Examiners and a national expert witness in court cases for and against therapists.

Readers will learn about important issues including but not limited to: the utilization of an accountant; the creation of an initial and ongoing business budget; the development of a referral base; the required licenses and insurance, the evaluation of effective marketing approaches, the design of a unique niche; the importance of addressing legal and ethical issues; and many other important steps in building a private practice.

The author encourages readers to think about this course as an introduction to the process of starting one’s own business. Consequently, he strongly recommends that those seriously considering starting a new private practice utilize the resources mentioned in the course and dedicate themselves to further investigating the topics mentioned in the content. Becoming a successful business owner can’t be accomplished by reading one introductory course.

This course was specifically designed for licensed therapists who are considering creating a new private practice or who have just begun the process.
