Course Description:

This course is the pre-licensure course addressing the broad subject of human sexuality. as required by the California State Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), which is the licensing and regulatory body for Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) in California.

For the purposes of this course, the text book Understanding Human Sexuality, is used. The subjects covered in the book include, but are not limited to, the following:

Theoretical perspectives and research, anatomy and physiology, sex hormones and differentiation, conception and pregnancy, sexual arousal, sexuality throughout the life cycles, gender and sexuality (including transgender issues), sexual orientation, variations on sexual behaviors (including paraphillias), sexual coercion, sex and the sex industry, sexual disorders and treatments, sexually transmitted infections, and issues of sex and ethics, religion, and the law.

Due to the many (and ever-changing) challenges in discussing issues of sexuality, the subjects presented are meant to provide a broad introduction to issues most commonly confronted by licensed clinicians.
